A Computer Drawing of Vivi (FFIX)

Color outline version

Final Fantasy IX is probably my favorite of the long-running series of video games. I’m not that good at drawing, but I thought I’d try drawing the best, and possibly most popular, character in the game. I first did it by hand and then scanned it into Photoshop and outlined/colored it in. I had two versions: One with black ‘ink’ lines and one that looks more natural with similar line colors to the fill. It was a pretty long process, but it came out better than I expected it would.

Tobias Fünke

It wasn't really the pronunciation that bothered me.

This is mostly for people that are fans of Arrested Development. I just really liked Tobias’ business card and wanted to have a full-size version of it. Remember, Dr. Fünke is a revolutionary in psychiatric medicine.

Banners Over the Years: Part 4

These are my most recent banners. I haven’t made many recently, but I think the quality has improved. I’ve started using patterns to use as a background overlay pretty often. The Hester and Lidstrom banners are good examples of that.

They have been a big part in my improvement of Photoshop skills. I’m sure I’ll make some more and eventually make another post, but that’s it for the banners for now.

Banners Over the Years: Part 3

After my frames phase, I began learning about more of Photoshop’s tools that I hadn’t used that much. Brushes got much more prominent during this time. I also had a lot of designs that used levels and curves layers to create an overexposed look, as can be seen in the Kobe Bryant banner.

Banners Over the Years: Part 2

It is the year 2005. I’m steadily improving my skills and during this time I really got interested in putting tech frames around the banners and using a lot of motion blur. I’m really not sure what I was thinking, since those frames don’t go well with sports. Around this time, I had a long-running thread on the Beckett.com message board. A large number of the banners I’ve made over the years were made for people that put in requests on those boards.

Banners Over the Years: Part 1

I first got Photoshop sometime in 2004. Since then I’ve been doing a lot of graphic design type stuff, mostly for fun and once in a while for work. After doing this for over seven years, I’m still not as good as I’d like to be, but there is definite improvement. In the next few posts I’ll be putting up various banners that I’ve made in chronological order to show, hopefully, how far I’ve come. Most of these were made for message boards that I’ve belonged to for myself or people that have asked me to make one.

The ShIn-Megami-tenSei 3: PERSONAFIED

Mock cover for Sims Tensei 3

Release your persona realistically!

A user on the Penny Arcade forums held a contest to win a copy of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzonoha vs. King Abaddon. The theme was to make a hardcore game casual or vice-versa. I combined the Sims with Persona 3 with the main concept being the ‘gun’ control with the Wii controller.
